Good morning all,

Don't know if I'm on the right page for this but can anyone fill in the gaps?

Herbert Roy Hunt b 1897  2/3017  (known as Roy)
Embarkation 1916 A-Howitzer Battery Ammunition Column (Egypt)
Occupation signwriter.
Wounded on 15/6/18  casualty list no. 881/2

My question is, where was he wounded (country).?
I know of a convalescent hospital at Grey Friars Hornchurch, where there was a NZ base/barracks as well could he have been sent there?

The reason I think he was at Hornchurch is that my aunt, who lived in Hornchurch married him in 1920.

He was in France.  His unit in May 1918 was X Trench Mortar Battery (he had moved from the ammunition column previously).  His service record is at:

I enjoyed reading his record and I am surprised that the army does not seem to know when he was wounded or where. It does not look as though he was sent to the UK.

This is all fantastic, it always amazes me how you can all find out so much, when I have spent ages looking & come up with next to nothing!

Have another look at his record.  The place of wounding on 30 May 1918 is indeed not recorded but he was in and out of the Field Ambulance on the same day so not too bad a wounding.  There isn't a digitised war diary for X Trench Mortar Battery but it may be possible to work out where he was from others.

He did go to Hornchurch.  In Feb 1919 when the unit was in Germany he was sent back to UK, it appears in that month and in April 1919.  Recorded on pages 22 and 23.  He was there for VDG which I'll leave you to ferret out!
