Yes definitely upload on to other sites there are plenty of people who have not tested via ancestry.

16 percent German ethnicity

Would indicate a German great grandfather .
Are you sure?

My mother has 73% German ethnicity estimate but all of her great Grandparents were born in Sussex, England, according to our paper trail and this has been confirmed by DNA matches to descendants on every one of the branches. (In fact almost all of her GGGP's too, just a couple over the Surrey border.)

I am very sceptical of the whole ethnicity thing - it varies so much from site to site - on FTDNA she has not UK ethnicity at all.

My comments though to the OP would be that DNA takes a huge amount of patience - you can wait years for the match to come along that makes the difference - but it is well worth the effort and the wait!

Yes I think the ethnicity thing is pretty unreliable. I have results Showing 100% Irish/Scottish on myheritage vs 39% on ancestry  ???

The ethnicity aspect worked really well for me on both sides
+ For distant cousins in USA who s gggparents were all born in USA but the generation before came from Russia

But anyway it's only one theory for the OP original poster to work on

Looking at surname matches or locations might be the best way for her to find matches.

Liz your words about patience are very wise
