If it wasn't her it was someone else

Phyllis E Hodgson
Israel A Seitz
Sadie Seitz

and no Lilian

Thanks Milli for all your hard work here. Lily C coupled with the birth date does sound like a different Lily. Maybe I will splash out and get a death certificate  but first I will follow the Phyllis route and see who registered her death. I will look for probate too to see if Lily is mentioned.

I did find this for Lily Smith in Sept 1964

SMITH   LILY   80   BRENTWOOD      4A   354

It is Brentwood and not East or West Ham/Forest gate but the dates work. However that would mean Lily somehow found herself moving from Forest Gate into Brentwood area or maybe was sent to a hospital there! Perhaps it is a different Lily.

In your experience is it unusual for a death to be registered in a shortened name like Lily as she was actually christened Lilian Alice Ormesby (I have no idea where the Ormesby came from).

The problem with deaths is the person concerned is gone so the information about him or her is only as accurate as the person who is the informant on the death and supplies the information.

If she was known as Lily in later life then that is the information that would be given and her middle names may never have been known about.
