You only have 12 children in your list

Sorry you have 13 but Annie Elizabeth did not exist, the 13th is Bertie.

The 1891 census has children Florence, Lillian, Sydney, Mabel, Ruth and Horace.  No Annie Elizabeth or anything similar.  Bertie is the only child that has died.

The 1901 census has Lillian, Sydney, Mabel, Ruth, Horace, Leonard, Winnie, Herbert and Reginald.  Florence, Oswald and Victor have died.

SMITH, FLORENCE  ANNIE LOUISE
aged 12
GRO Reference: 1894  D Quarter in WEST HAM  Volume 04A  Page 76

SMITH, OSWALD
aged 2
GRO Reference: 1895  D Quarter in WEST HAM  Volume 04A  Page 88

SMITH, VICTOR
aged 0
GRO Reference: 1895  D Quarter in WEST HAM  Volume 04A  Page 88

The two boys must have died very close together.  The deaths of Horace and Mabel make up the total of 6 deaths by 1911.

Thanks again Debra.I made a mistake on the dates and gratefully I now know I was wrong with Annie. I have added Bertie and you are absolutely spot on that I have 13 children now.In your search did you see a death date for Bertie?

Many thanks

Bertie was buried:

Last name: Smith
First names: Bertie
Burial date: 30 September 1886
Authority: Manor Park
Location: Manor Park Cemetery (Newham)

He was two months old.  Address is given as 13 Ramsey Road, Forest Gate. Does this address match with anything you have for your Smith family?

Where buried says Sq 156 Gr 433 which I guess means Section 156 Grave No. 433.

Yes thanks Girl Guide. Ramsay Road was one of the first addresses the Family had in Forest Gate and the first three or four children were born there. How sad to learn yet another Smith died so young.

I have really appreciated you finding this information out for me.

With Rootschat I am far wiser about my Family than when I started out today.Just still puzzled about Leonard Smith who seems to have disappeared after 1911.Its just that there were flowers from Mr L Smith at my grandad's funeral in 1947 and the only L Smith I know of is Leonard.

Thanks again
Roger

Have you thought about getting Leonard's birth certificate to get his exact date of birth.  You can then use this to see if he is on the 1939 Register.  I would imagine that he would have been too old to serve in any of the forces during the second world war as he would have been nearly 50.

It may also be helpful if you are looking for a death for Leonard provided it is late enough.  It looks as though dob's were given from 1969 onwards.

Interesting Jon.  The Challis couple were living at that address in 1939 but Leonard wasn't.

Perhaps he had a room or two!
Looking as though Leonard never married.
