I am looking for any information about Alfred John Carpenter and his wife, Mary Ann Preston. Here’s what I know about them and their family:

Birth:   1840, Frome, Somerset, England (Mother’s surname Attwood)
Death:   Unknown
Occupation:   Stationer

Spouse:   Mary Ann Preston
Birth:   1842/3 East India, London, England (Possibly arrived August 1854 on Great Britain).
           Mary’s father Peter was a Captain in Third Regiment of Foot, HM Army, East India. Peter
married Frances Strong (mother’s maiden name Carter) in Parish Church, Tiverton,
Devon (circa 1841). Church records show his title as Esquire.
Death:   1879 aged 35 years.

Children:   Florence May (11 October 1870 - ) Born at Echuca, Australia. Married Francis Muller in
                1912.
           Henry Farquarens (1873 - ) Born at Wodonga, Australia.
           Rosina (1875 - ) Born at Echuca, Australia. Married Abraham Herman in 1901.
           Lily Louisa Isabel (1876 - 1877) Born at Echuca, Australia. Died aged 7 months at Echuca.
           Mabel Adeline (1877 - ) Born at Echuca, Australia. Married Arthur Earnest Shrimpton
                (1899).
           Evelyn Maud (1881 - ) Born at Warragul, Australia.
           Ida (1883 – 1888) Born at Warragul, Australia. Died aged 5 years at Warragul.
           Archibald Stanley (1884 - ) Born at Preston, Australia.
           Alfred John (1887 - 1889) Born at Melbourne, Australia. Died aged one year at Melbourne.
           Frank Henry Crosson (1890 - 1891) Born at Carlton, Australia. Died aged 3 months at
                Carlton.

I believe that there is a French connection further back in the family history.

I’d appreciate any help I can receive on this one.

The only marriage at Tiverton around that time for a Frances (Maria) Strong was in 1839 to a Peter Brown(e)

When Alfred & Mary Ann married what information did it give.  Online trees suggest that Mary Ann was born c1848

Who died in 1879 age 35, it can't have been Alfred John or Mary Ann as you have them still having children after that date
