Dublin Dance Halls 1930s and 1940s
« on: Saturday 11 July 20 14:44 BST (UK) »
My late parents used to talk a lot about going dancing back in the 1930s and 1940s in Dublin at a dance hall called either The Bamber / Banber / Bamba Hall which was somewhere either in Fairview or elsewhere in Dublin.

I've been trying to find out some details about the venue, but can't seem to find anything anywhere with any of these names.

Just wondered if anyone might know of this place?

Many thanks

Banba Hall, or Halla Banba. It's in Parnell Square.

It was in the thick of things during the Rising.

Banba is one of the old goddesses of Ireland.

Ah right!  So it's Banba ..... I'd never have thought that was how it was spelt.

Thank you so much Dublin1850.

It's also where my parents first met.  I can now follow up and see if there are any pictures or further information about dances and events held there.

Brilliant!

The 'National Ballroom' was in the same building.

Many thanks again. That fits with the stories I used to hear.
