Charlotte Northage nee Chambers abt 1833 and a mystery son/grandson
« on: Saturday 11 July 20 15:25 BST (UK) »
I've lost track of this lady after 1881 and found a burial of a possible son with but no birth for him;

1851 Charlotte Chambers  1 Hungate Court, Lincoln
1861 Charlotte Chambers  16 Union St, Worksop

1862 marriage Sheffield RD, Charlotte Chambers to Charles Northage

1871  Charlotte Northage, Newgate St, Worksop (widow)

1881 Charlotte Northage, 26 Hungate, Lincoln (widow)

After that I've lost her.
=

26/12/1870 burial of Thomas Northage, Hungate aged 2. The plot contains seven burials all of which are children, none have surnames associated with my tree.

I can't find a birth or baptism for him, he may have been the son of Charlotte or possibly her grandson.

A query, and does not answer your post, did Charlotte have a son who died in infancy in 1873 called Robert James Northage.

John

She had four children that I know of;

Sarah 1864
Ann 1861 (I think registered as Ann Chambers but appears as Ann Northage in census)

Alexander McDonald Chambers was born 1851 in Lincoln and died 1852 in Lincoln,
Mary Jane McDonald Chambers was born 31 Aug 1857 in Lincoln

Of those four it seems only Sarah was born in wedlock.

 The children born in the 1850's are the son of a neighbour (found in the census), and a couple of news reports mention Charlotte living with the father at the time.

I should really check for the Northage name in the newspapers as several Chambers family appeared in the courts for varied relatively minor offences.

Northage is a reasonably common name in Worksop but with the mmn Chambers and knowing how Charlotte popped out kids I wouldn't be surprised to find a connection.

The 1861 census makes interesting reading. Charlotte is with daughter Ann aged 1 born Lincoln and is grand daughter to George Charlotte's father. There's also a grandson aged 7 born Sheffield. Do not think he is the son of John aged 20 (he would have only been13 ) Is he another child of Charlotte?

Nice going, the Coldron family are certainly connected to the Chambers family.

The Chambers lot ended up in Worksop when Charlotte's father was accused of a murder. Once I get my tea out the way I can see a hunt through my existing census returns coming up and checking the neighbouring houses and other family. There's very few census when just one family group appears in a house together, they seemed to be forever dodging about.
