Doherty Family, Carrick, Co. Donegal
« on: Sunday 12 July 20 13:39 BST (UK) »
Dear Photo Magicians,

This is Patrick Doherty and Sally Gara and their 10 children, probably taken in the early 1920s. I would love to see the photo enhanced, if possible. The original photograph appears to have been laminated, or plasticised in some way, probably in the US.

Thank you,

Ita

Japeflakes and John,

Thank you so much - for a woman who has given birth to ten children, my Grandmother is looking remarkably well; my Grandfather looks arrogantly proud of the brood he has created!
Lovely detail, thank you.

Do you think that the original photo was treated with some colorization effect? The foliage appears to have a green tinge.

I've repaired the major blotches but there are zillions of defects when it's magnified, but I also checked the Hue and Colour content before altering it to Black and White.  I'll make a miniature and turn the HUE to maximum and post it so you can see what colour information was still in it.  Any compression formats reduce colour information contained in original photographs, so we're only seeing the residue.  Rootschatters are better at colouring a black and white jpg than many original developers' dark room results.  cheers, Ian

All I've done is turned the Saturation of existing colour to maximum

Tomkin, Ian and Pat,

Thank you so much for your time and expertise. You have brought life to a very old family photograph - so far as I know, this is the only photo taken of the entire family.
