Mary Sadler
« on: Sunday 12 July 20 22:55 BST (UK) »
I’m looking for the baptism  of Mary Sadler who married John Peacock 1786 in Stratfield Saye,Hampshire. They had children in Berkshire. I did not see the original image of the marriage so I don’t know if it says where they’re from or lived at the time  ??? There’s a baptism of a Mary Sadler 1767 Reading daughter of William and Elizabeth and one for a Mary Sadler 1767 Ashfield daughter of Thomas and Ann.

Can someone help me please ?

I can't help with the baptism, but I can see from the marriage transcriptions that Mary Sadler marries John POCOCK (3 out of 4 transcriptions, the other one being PECOCK).  Also, assuming that the baptisms of their children were conducted at Bradfield in Berkshire, then again the surname is POCOCK.

If not, then I apologise.   :-[

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I thought i have the right couple because the transcription said Peacock(Pecock) and I found a baptism for John Peacock in Hartley Wespall just a few minutes from Stratfield Saye 1752 :-\  The Pocock couple of Bradfield is John Pocock and Mary Cheney who married in Bradfield in 1787. I would like to see the original image but that’s not possible on ancestry for the Berkshire area. In my opinion Pocock and Peacock are two different surnames  ???

Thank you BumbleB! I hope we and other members can solve the problem

I agree that it would be good to see the original marriage entry, which might help to decide whether it is Pecock or Pocock (only the FamilySearch entry states Pecock), whilst Phillimore, FreeREG and Hampshire Genealogical Society all say Pocock = Stratfield Saye.

It might be worth your while to ask the County Archives for a copy of the marriage entry to see whether there is additional information - when they re-open of course.
