Adopted Aunt
« on: Monday 13 July 20 18:24 BST (UK) »
I have an aunt who was born in 1941 and was adopted as a baby due to her mother dying in bombing.  I contacted social services to try to trace my aunt but was told all they could confirm was that she was registered with a doctor in the UK.
She has one surviving full sister in her eighties who would love to be reunited with her. There are also many other family members who would be happy to welcome her back if she is willing to allow contact.
What do I need to try next?
Thanks.

Her sister, your aunt may be allowed access to the adoption file but I cannot be certain about that.

Ok thanks. It might be worth asking the social worker about that.

You could try the ITV programme Long Lost Family, they seem good at tracing lost relatives and have specialised researchers who are allowed to access adoption records.

Have you tried Social Media?  Exactly how old was she when her mother died?  If she was a toddler, it's unlikely her christian name would have been changed as it would have been confusing

I tried Facebook but no results.  She was born in December 1940 and her mother died in July 1941 so she was about 7 months old.

You could add a postem to her original birth on free bmd, so that if she or someone who knows her happens to look up her birth then they can contact you.
