Grant's Distilery Maidstone COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 14 July 20 09:05 BST (UK) »
Hi, has anyone a photo of Grant's Morello Cherry Brandy works or of the adjacent Shirley House in Hart Street Maidstone?

I'm struggling to find one but it must be in this photo taken in 1929

https://www.britainfromabove.org.uk/image/epw026066

It was also known as Queen's Distillery and was apparently next to the Foster Clark factory

Thanks Bearkat, just trawled through the 1929s and it just misses the site, on the M/stone west one Foster Clark is at the edge  :'(.

That's frustrating.

Maidstone Museum has a fantastic photo archive

http://kentphotoarchive.org.uk

but I can't see anything for Hart Street or Barker Road.  It might be worth contacting the museum to see if they have anything.

I've tried the Kent Archives database but that seems to be down and has been since lockdown, I think.

I don't think factories were popular subjects for photographs.

There is a lovely one of their Lenham factory though.
