Can anyone recommend a hit counter?
« on: Thursday 16 July 20 18:38 BST (UK) »
A few weeks ago, the hit counter that I have been using on my Calderdale Companion website suddenly disappeared.

I found an alternative counter which worked OK but has now begun to produce a pop-up error page that some users may have experienced.  Investigations have suggested that this hit counter software messes around with the users' cookies.

I am now looking for any recommendations for a reliable, safe, and (hopefully) free hit counter.

Hi

Agreed, StatCounter.com, used for a long time.

What is the name of the one that you don't like?

Ray

pm me the name if you don't wish to publish publicly? Thanks.

Not too impressed with STATCOUNTER support.  After I downloaded their stuff, I emailed them, asking whether it was possible to set a start value for the counter.  I received an email confirming that they had received my email, but I am still waiting 8 days later.

There's only so much they can blame COVID for.  I don't think I shall be buying their services.

How do I change my counters starting count?
[ It seems to be a standard answer in their setup  - via statcounter.com/support ]

To change your starting counter number, log in your statcounter account and follow these steps:
1. Click on Project name
2. Click on Config tab at top
3. From left hand side, click on Customize Counter option.
4. Now finally click on Starting Counter tab on page to chnage your counter figure.

I feel that I should correct my last message about what I thought was STAT COUNTER's poor response.

I did receive a second email from them, answering my question, but my Spam filter didn't recorgnise the numbers-only Subject line as acceptable, and I suspect that their original reply might have gone the same way and got lost when I deleted it with the dozens of others which we get every day.

My apologies to STAT COUNTER for making them appear uncaring.
