Struggling with Jones’s!
« on: Thursday 16 July 20 20:25 BST (UK) »

I’m looking for Margaret Jones, born approx 1865 in Llanybyther, Lampeter.

Her Father was David Jones, Occupation: Grocer.

She married in 1884. Witnesses were Stephen Jones and James Thomas.

I can’t find her, (for sure) on the 1871 Census.

Can anyone on here see her please?

Cheers, Romilly.

On https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/places/regindex2-2.pdf Lampeter is shown as Cardiganshire but Llanybyther as Carmarthenshire??

Have you checked in both counties just in case

1871 has an entry with grandparents b 1867.  Could she be the illegitimate daughter of their 27yr old dtr Mary?

GRO online shows 17 births in the Lampeter RD 1865-1867 and 3 were illegitimate

You can look at the remaining 14 and see whether any of the mmn's match to a David Jones marriage

Many thanks for looking Carole.

Yes, that could be her with Grandparents on the 1871 census.

On the 1891 census she’s 25 and married to William David. He’s 35 and she’s 25. They married in February 1884.

I’ve never been able to find a definite Birth or Baptism for her, but I know that’s her on the 1891.

Romilly.

I used to live in Llanybydder and yes, it straddles the county boundaries of Cardiganshire (Ceredigion) and Carmarthenshire. Modern spelling is Llanybydder rather than Llanybyther.

Yes, it’s Cardiganshire on FindMyPast and Carmarthenshire on Ancestry!
