Date please, CdV by Gibson of Hexham
« on: Friday 17 July 20 09:21 BST (UK) »
Please can the experts give me their opinion on this one?

I wondered if it was late 1860's or early 1870's.

Thanks for any advice you can give  :)

Hi,

J.P. Gibson was born in 1838. Would the late 1860's have been too early for him to have had his own photography studio?
I have to admit I know little about how businesses were started back then.

Best regards,
Karen

Edit: He became a chemist after leaving school, joining the family business. So maybe money was not a hurdle as regards starting up a photography studio...

Hi Karen  :)

You probably don't know that Jennifer is a bit of an expert on Gibson.

The back suggests 1860s and I'd think it's mid 60s. Jim is best on men's attire though.

Thanks Karen.
He was most definitely operating as a photographer in the mid-1860's  :)

Correct. I didn't.  :-[

I'd better stay out of threads like this in future.  :-X

Now that's not necessary!

I'm surprised that you've not noticed that Jennifer has put up lots of Gibson CdV for dating over the years. She has a great collection  :)
