How interesting!! I wonder if that was because his actually birth name had been recorded incorrectly and the birth and death certificates needed to match, or clarify any name difference.

Thank you for the update Cathy.

Cathy I am noticing Adamson  in your surname interests.  Do you have the  Adamson - Kay attachment to the Burnt Island / Larbert, Stirling shire Christie family ?

When John married Maggie Mitchell in 1884 his father's name shows as Shepherd and the same when he remarried in 1923

Hi Mona Lisa sorry I don’t think so, my Adamson’s were in Pittenween, Fife and my Christie originated in Ireland and settled in Midlothian.

Hi Crumblie I haven’t as yet got John’s marriage certs but did do a quick search, I found his second one but thank you for info ref date for his first as I hadn’t located that one yet.

It just seems strange that on his death cert it mentions previously known as Shephot as he appears to have used Shepherd throughout his life and for his 2nd wife to mention it to the registrar who inserts it on certificate.
Mitchell, Macpherson, Macbeth, Ross, Lyell, Kennedy, Mcdonald, Mackay, Keay, Simpson and Adamson.

Might it be to clear any confusion of his parents being Shephot and Rennie?
