William Maguire b1899 Kettins, Forfarshire
« on: Sunday 19 July 20 16:17 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for suggestions on how to locate more information on William Maguire, son of Thomas Maguire and Janet McIntosh. I have found his birth certificate and mention on the 1901 census but nothing more. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Hi , welcome to RC  :)

Located this(but nothing about William)-
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/126972585/janet-maguire

The family seem to be down as MAQUIRE on the 1911 Census index , Kinnell Angus ,
William MAQUIRE , age 12(Scotlandspeople website).

Thank you - that is helpful. I was searching only for Maguire and not variations.

Hi CanScot

Could William have died in WW1 like his brother Thomas?

Could he have followed his brother James to Canada?

Deaths for four of the sisters all show on SP don't they. Easier to identify as they include mother's maiden name.

Ev has already linked the Find a Grave details. There is also some of the same details here www.ancestor.abel.co.uk/Angus/Kinnell.html  This includes also further details on son Thomas's death and a photo of the Kinnell War Memorial.

I did see one tree with William married to an Alice Christina Sharpe(Ancestry) , and a death in the USA.
However it looks like Alice died in Scotland.
I'm not sure if they have looked at the marriage certificate.  :-\

William Maguire and Alice Christina Sharpe married in Dalziel in 1926. The certificate confirms his parents as Thomas M and Janet McIntosh. He was a police constable in Motherwell.

Alice Christina Robertson, other surname Maguire, mother's surname Robertson, died in Lanark in 1983. I don't see an abvious death for William in Scotland. Maybe he died in England?

Janet Sharpe Maguire, other surname Black, mother's surname Sharpe, died in Arbroath in 2007 aged 79.

Janet Sharpe Maguire was born in Douglas in 1927. There are no more Maguire births in Douglas.

That one's parents are Hugh Maguire and Mary Ann Hamilton.

Thanks Forfarian , never sure if these trees are correct , but you never know.

From the information provided by MonicaL -
Quote
Thomas Maguire   gunner   Royal Garrison Artillery [Died]15 Sep 1916   Somme   police constable, Perth; son of Thomas Maguire and Janet McIntosh, Ballinshoe, Kirriemuir, formerly of Kinnell
So , police constable also seems to be a connection.
