Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thomas died at the Somme. His twin brother James died in Canada in 1958.

Appreciate the help. I think I was being too cautious with my search parameters.

Sorry, got another question. His wife (Alice Christina) died in 1983 but I can't find any death certificate for William. Could that mean that he died outside of Scotland, for example during the second world war?

If there is no death certificate in Scotland, I think it means that he must have died outside Scotland, but the CWGC has no listing of a William Maguire who died in the second world war aged 40 or more.

A family tree gives this death for William:

William MAGUIRE
Aged 46
1945
644/6 1316
Townhead

Additional notes state:

Death on 24 Nov 1945 at Royal Infirmary, Glasgow.
Usual residence: 20 Caledonian Avenue, Rutherglen.
Informant of death was daughter Janet.

Easy enough to check the death cert on SP as it is within the dates the image can be viewed online.

Thanks for that. I had searched SP but nothing came up. I then searched without the first name and the record appeared. Turns out that the spelling on SP is wrong, there is only one "l" in the name.
