DNA and neice

Hi all,

My Dad has a match with a lady of 133cm across 8 segments (I have 45cm)

There's no connection  with our trees so have to assume it's a NPE.

When I've looked at the shared matches however, my Dads neice (and obviously my cousin) doesn't come up?

Is this possible? I'm guessing she must share 20cm or less? Frustratingly, I can't ask her as she disowned her father (My Dads brother) and she never replied when I last messaged her.

Is it possible that her disowned father wasnt really her birth father ? Even if the grandfather was not his birth father you would match has half cousins and she would match with your father as half neice thru her and your paternal grandmother

true cousins and half cousins would normally show on dna

She's definitely my father's neice as they share 1,679cm. I share 831 with her.

I just can't grasp why the 133cm match with Dad (and my 45cm) doesn't show as a shared match with my cousin?

The mystery lady should be the same relation to your cousin as to you. But with so much variation in how much DNA gets passed on each generation, it could be that your cousin got less than 20, as you suggest.

I have two half 3C1Rs (JH and MH) who are first cousins to each other (their fathers were brothers). With one I share 62 cM over 4 segments, and with the other it is 32 cM over 2. I have contacted both of them and double checked, because from these results it looked like MH was a generation lower than JH. I have a match of 18 over 1 segment to MH's son, which is what I would expect given my match to MH. JH has researched her maternal side quite thoroughly and I have certainly no link there which would add to the match I have with both ladies' paternal side.

DNA is certainly something you have to get your head around isn't it!
I'll just have to assume my cousin probably shares less than 20cm.

I have a 160 match to AD
   She matches MY aunt 340cm( 1 c 1 r * ?)

Her two nephews K + J match me to 50 cm and 70 cm
 + Her Neice HD matches me 150cm/7 seg
+ My aunt 177 /9 seg

A H who according to thru lines is her grandaughter matches matches me by 40 cm.but my aunt by 126cm

AH told me she matches
K 48 cm me 40
+ AD by 1910
So suspects AD is her great aunt or grandmother

That sounds similar to your match but as lizzieL says theres a lot of variety

I forgot to include segments too.

But will remove if it adds confusion to your post .

As you go down the generations the difference between matches increases
The examples I gave ,K + J  confirmed lines are 1,c ,2 r. To my aunt ,2 c ,1 r to me .

Isn't it complicated ...but fun too !
