Help with finding Lal Newton
« on: Tuesday 21 July 20 09:21 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I got a message on ancestry from someone who is trying to locate Lal Newton.
She was married to my 2 cousin 4x removed so I do not have a lot on her but I have started looking for her & I am getting very little.
I can find her 3 marriages, she uses the name Lal Newton in all 3 so I assume she was twice divorced. She died in 1958 giving her age as 58 in Derbyshire.
the 1st marriage was to my cousin Fred Stein in 1920, 2nd to Frederick Lewis Thomas in 1925 & 3rd to Benjamin Harris in 1941.
I cannot find any other record of her so just wondering if I am missing something.

Thank you
John

I guess what is needed is a fatherís name for her from a marriage certificate.

Agree with Jamjar at least you will have her father's name and his occupation.

Lal married last two husbands with her maiden name Newton and not her previously married ones Stein or Thomas....

What about checking Electoral Registers for a Lal Stein/Thomas/Harris to see if her christian is entered differently.

Itís a shame her death entry only gives year 1900 and not her full dob  ???

Not that this will be of any help but my grandmotherís sister Lillian was known as Lal

Presumably she is the 'comedy actress' who appears in Cinderella with Teddy Lewis
Staffordshire Sentinel 07 January 1930

Marriage to Benjamin Harris was at Registry Office

ADDED Possibly Lal Newton was a stage name that she also married under.

First mentions of this couple in The Stage, early 1925, are they sometimes Mr and Mrs?
Teddy Lewis = Frederick Lewis Thomas? :-\

First husband Fred Stein went into partnership with Mr Johnson, circa 1925, as cinema outfitters. Dissolved 1927
Married to Nell Borley in 1925, not long after Lal Newton's remarriage.
Died Birmingham, 1929, age 31

Bioscope, 29 May 1929
Death of Freddy Stein We regret to have to record the passing of an old Midland stalwart in the person of Frederick Stein, whose death took place on Tuesday of the past week. Freddy, as he was known to one and all, was perhaps best known as partner in the firm of Stein and Johnson.....
...For some time Freddy has been on the staff of the Sunday Mercury, where he was in office up to his recent illness. The interment took place on Saturday morning at Brandwood End Cemetery, at which many of the Birmingham exhibitors were present. Among the floral tributes was a very fine wreath from the members of the Birmingham cinema industry.

Free index has her in Gloucester.
Lal Jarvis (Newton), born 1904
21 Conduit Street, Gloucester C.B., Gloucestershire

Jarvis is an error.
Ancestry index is Tal Newton [Tal Harvis]

Could be a "v"?
