Hi thank you for your help & you always amaze me with the research.

I had no idea of the Theatre connexion I will have to pursue that.

I have ordered the marriage certificate but that could take some time. A tree gave her father as Wally Newton and I have a Lily Newton daughter of Walter Newton born 1900 in the Crew area.

I did not see the 1939 entry but I was looking in the Leeds & Derbyshire areas not thinking she had gone back down south.

Fred Stein died 21 May 1929 at the Yardley Road Sanitorium, his grandfather was Nathaniel Muffitt he was a timber Merchant, born in Roberttown Yorkshire & moved down to Gloucestershire.
I will pass this on to her granddaughter who contacted my.

Hi

Just had a look at the 1939 registry entry & it looks like they have put Harvis instead of Harris also gives her as single instead of divorced. The year of birth is wrong she would only have been 15 when she married Fred Stein but her date of birth would correspond with the baptism of Lily Newton on 28 October 1900 at Copperhall, Cheshire, the daughter of Walter & Emma Newton.

I will have to wait for the certificate to come to see if my theory about Walter is right

Once again some fantastic research well done.

She would have been the person who gave the information in 1939 about her surname, marital status and date of birth.  She probably wanted to appear younger than she was.

Do let us know when you get the marriage certificate, shame the divorce papers are not part of TNA's current free downloads.

I'm not sure Lily, daughter of Walter Newton and Emma Hope, is the right person.

It looks like Walter died in 1927 and Emma died in 1939. Children Lily and John appear to be together in the 1939 register, in which case it can't be the right Lily. I could be wrong though.

Thank you for the research into Walter & Emma.

It is looking like my theory was wrong I will just have to wait until the certificate comes so I can get the extra info.
Will keep you posted.

Hi

Just got the marriage certificate. Lal Newton married F.A.B. Stein at Birmingham registry Office Feb 1920, it gives her age as 21 & she is a music hall artist, her father was Wally Newton, deceased musical hall artist.

With them being music hall artist they could be both using stage names so could be hard to trace.
