Maybe the family moved from Ireland to Co. Durham between Hugh's birth and Mary's (ie, 1845 - 1852) which would explain the difference in the place of birth.

Found this family in the 1851 English Census on Chester Le Street:

William Burns   Head   Male   40   Ireland County Down
Ann Burns   Wife   Female   40   Ireland County Down
Barnard Burns   Son   Male   17   Ireland County Down
Peter Burns   Son   Male   9   Ireland County Down
Mary Burns   Daughter   Female   12   Ireland County Down
Hugh Burns   Son   Male   7   Ireland County Down
Cathrine Burns   Daughter   Female   5   Ireland County Down

You're one step ahead of me -- just found Hugh's baptism with Lavery as Ann's maiden name.  Names all fit.  Barnard may have a different mother, given the age gap.

Yes I thought so too.
I can’t find a Murray/Burns marriage though which might help

Perhaps the Burns/Connor marriage witnesses will be family  :)

William (Guillermas) Burns & Anne Lavery were married on August 19, 1827 in Drumgooland Parish; witnesses were Peter Lavery, Hugh Burns and Maria McMullan.

Bernard baptised October 8, 1831; another son Jacobus (likely James) baptised February 5, 1829.  One of the sponsors for Jacobus was an Elizabeth Lavery (can't read the other one). Sponsors for Bernard were Hugh Burns and Maria Smith.
