From 1920 onwards service documents are with MOD.

If he is still alive he can apply free so could his widow if he has died

You will have to pay £30.00

Death over 25 yrs ago and anyone can apply.

Death under 25 yrs next of kin or with the permission of next of kin.

Death cert required, you do not need service number if you have date of birth

Thanks everyone.  This guy was plain George HEALEY, who was born in November 1928 in Salford, Lancs, and who died in 1983 in Bolton Lancs.  Because he was a soldier in the Malayan War and would have been 'called up' between 1946-1949.  All I'm trying to find out is whether he could have been billeted in WILTSHIRE during those years before going overseas.     :D :D :D
