More help with St Pancras Board of Guardians entry please
« on: Wednesday 22 July 20 10:11 BST (UK) »
Yet another bit I can't quite read, if someone could help please?  This is from a children's admission record that includes a piece about the mother.

I have deciphered most but there is a word I can't make out (so shown as [?]) which looks like patient, but that doesn't make sense.  Also a mark (|), which might just be an 'insert' for an addition.

Here's my transcription:

2 Dec 1901 By order of Justice belongings were searched by RO Lock, sister & bro in law Kate & Norman Smith failed to find marriage certificate & [?] will find no information | although found 3 birth certificates of children & are as follows.

Thanks.

Of course!  So obvious once someone points it out.

Thanks very much.

I think the 'pipe' ie the downstroke that is too long and the wrong shape to be capital I, is just to separate the inserted info about finding the birth certs.

It’s a badly written closing bracket, surely?

Could well be.

It's not surprising that this man's handwriting is so bad, as there are so many different ledgers that say more or less the same thing. He must have got cramp writing it all out for the nth time!
