Date please, CdV by Gibson of Hexham
« on: Wednesday 22 July 20 17:27 BST (UK) »
I'm rather pleased with this one. A very smart looking young gentleman  :)

Late 1860 to early 1870's ?

I'd welcome your advice on the date, please  :)

I think it would be fairly late 1860s to early 1870s, Jennifer.  The back and pose looks late 60s but the jacket might be into the 70s as it buttons lower than the 60s ones.

Did Gibson use old card stock at one stage?

I would agree with Judy, he is known to use old card stock if I remember correctly and I am leaning towards 1870s

Thanks both of you  :)
I thought the pose was 1860's, but looking at my newly acquired books I wondered if the clothes were early 1870's.

I have three others on a very similar cardstock, the only difference being in the colour this one is red, all the others green) and in the wording on the back.

Chinakay thought this one was early 1870's  https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=667981.msg5130646#msg5130646

This one late 1860's/early 1870's https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=813223.msg6738455#msg6738455

I'd say that they were all mid-late 1860s. The woman's hairstyle is very 1860s.

Yes, Jim and China both made the same observation, she was dating it to 1870's by the bustle  :-\

I was wondering if she could be an old dowager but her face looks reasonably young when enlarged.

It would be lovely if you were able to find a listing of his clients and be able to match the photos to actual people  :)
