If we could get an exact date of birth for Emma, it might help if she stayed in the USA.

This is the original poster here, thank you Sandra for all the information. The only worry I have is Emma's father is listed as Thomas on her marriage record when it's actually William George. However there is only one Emma Chittleburgh (when searched with variations on the surname) in Norfolk born within 1890 and 1900 so this must be her?

I will search for that ancestry tree that you mentioned. Also I don't have Emma's birth date (birth registered Q2 1898) but may be useful if I send for her birth certificate.

The exact birth date might help us locate Emma if she stayed in the USA and maybe remarried.
Would be interesting if the owner of the ancestry tree can help your research. Would love any up dates if you make further progress.

Possibillity - needs more verification.

The birth date given on Canadian Attestation Papers for George Samson was 31 July 1897

Sometimes these documents might be showing one year out.

There is a record of a George Sampson  born in Montreal 31 July 1898 who died in Vancouver British Columbia 23 June 1962. No details of his family are known on the death certificate. Occupation was labourer.

On the 1901 census there is no father William George with the Chittleburgh family. (although he as a fisherman and could have been away from home) I wonder if Emma thought Tom Fountain was her father ?
