Workhouse Extracts
« on: Friday 24 July 20 10:25 BST (UK) »
Hi I'am try to trace my father and grandmother and I have some extracts from a workhouse document  I can not decipher.

The 2nd image is my grandmothers parents I think and the third image I know it says Mr Richards, 12 Penzance place but thats about it .

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Hi and welcome to RC!

Tricky handwriting. The best I can do is:

(???) – there 3 or 4 years – then to a (?) at Little Baddow near Chelmsford 5 months then to (?) Richards 12 (Penzance?/Pennine?) Place a (???) (???) My Box + Bible are with Mrs (Louis?/Lewis?) 21 Cresent Street – Notting Hill

George & (Florence? / Flower?) Bailey

I don’t remember asking the (???) of (???) in (???) (???) (???)
I was very young when I first went to (???) workhouse

Let's see what the experts say.  :)

Best regards,
Karen

I'll try and fill in some of the gaps left by Karen:

Dr Barnardos Home Ilford - there 3 or 4 years – then to a situation at Little Baddow near Chelmsford 5 months then to Mrs Richards 12 (Penzance?/Pennine?) Place a (???) 9 months. My Box + Bible are with Mrs (Louis?/Lewis?) 21 Crescent Street – Notting Hill

Thank you for the replies it is a massive help. "I don't remember acting the part of Topsey in Uncle Tom's Cabin" seems a very strange question to ask and log down on a workhouse record, although my grandmother was from Jamaica so she could of played the part.
