Buchanan/Whannell Family
« on: Friday 24 July 20 16:51 BST (UK) »
I have acquired some cutlery that has a family crest on it and have found out that it belongs to the Whannell family who seem to originate in Scotland. Possibly Ayrshire.
I am now curious to know more about this family and wondered if anybody could help.
According to Scotland's People, the family coat of arms seems to have been granted in 1778 to a Peter Whannell (alias Buchanan).
I think some of the family eventually moved down to London but would be interested to know about their origins presuming that they must have had a high enough status to be able to afford cutlery with their coat of arms engraved onto it!
Thank you.  :)

Hello. Thank you for getting in touch. I'm not related to the Whannell family in any way but as I said, I have acquired some cutlery with their crest on it.

Are you in the UK anywhere near Dorset? If you are, I would happily pass it on to you.

Hi Diblet - That was quick!

I live in the Highlands of Norfolk. I would be very interested in purchasing anything you have and paying postage. It might be better to do this by direct message.

I don't want any money for it but due to difficulties don't want to have to sort out posting it either. If you DM me I'll get a picture taken of what I have so that you could decide whether or not you'd like to organize some sort of courier pick-up.
