Help with Date and siblings Chevington School
« on: Sunday 26 July 20 11:27 BST (UK) »
Hi I wondered if anyone could help date this photograph taken at Chevington School Northumberland. On the photograph the boy 3rd from left is Thomas Crawford born 1908 in Alnwick. His siblings are all on the same photo Isabella Crawford born 1900, Andrew born 1902 and Charlotte born 1904. I have been thinking of the year 1913 as children in those days rarely attended school past the age of 13. Ive been trying to see any family resemblence also as only Thomas has been identified. Any help would be much appreciated

Is that 3rd from left on front row?  1913 sounds a good guess to me but I am not a date expert. Can you read the board at the front on the original?

I think there is a resemblance between the girl second in from left in back row and girl in front of her and they both wearing same pinny

I was drawn to those two as well but not because of the pinnies it was because they both have their hair the same style.
Of course they could be sisters but not to Thomas & Andrew.
Andrew would have been 11/12 so that rules out the 2 boys at the back which leaves 2 next row down.
I think he's 2nd. left as the other one looks a bit younger.
I don't think you're far off with the date, 1910-14.

I thought that the dates would fit in with the older girl being born in 1900 so might be around 13 and the younger girl being born in 1904 so might be around 9 or 10

Hi Japeflakes

Yes sorry that should have said 3rd from left on front row. Unfortunately you cant see whats on the board. 1913 would fit in quite nice. Thankyou for taking a look

Could the boy standing at the back on the far right hand side be the other brother as he looks like the boy in the front row with the board.

Hi Creasegirl I think that you and Jim1 could be right about the 2 sisters being the 2nd from left and the one in front of her. Isabella would have been 13 and Charlotte 9. I think Isabella resembles young Thomas a bit. Still not sure about Andrew who would have been about 12. Thomas is the one next to the one with the board. Thankyou both for taking a look at it. I think the possible date could be 1913

The school leaving age would have been 12 at that time, it was raised to 14 in 1918.
