What is this word?
« on: Sunday 26 July 20 17:56 BST (UK) »
I have the burial of Ferdinand Holland, buried 17 January 1623 at St Mary's in Prestwich, Lancashire. There is a word following his entry that I can't make out. Does anyone know what it says? I can just make out a "G" but I might be wrong.

Thanks  ;D

Gent[leman]? but there seems to be a 'd' after that.

Did other burials on the page have an occupation after the name?

I agree, it does look a lot like "Gent". His father was described as a gentleman on his baptism record so it's possible. One site has it transcribed as "Gener."  ??? (http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/cgi-bin/mkindx.cgi?parish=Prestwich&type=Parish&community=)

The register is written in Latin and the word is a contracted gene(rosus) = gentleman.
