Ellen Dowling born 1900 Waterford
« on: Sunday 26 July 20 23:56 BST (UK) »
I've found a prison record for Ellen (Nellie) Dowling who was born 1900 the daughter of Daniel Dowling and Annie Mclaren.

She was working as a servant in 1918 and apparently took a ring and pawned it when her case went t court her father claimed she had a habit of taking things and had sent his wife to the pawnshop to warn them not to purchase items from her (the pawnshop denied this).

The girl was too old for a reformatory so it was decided that the case would be adjourned for 12 months and in the meantime, the girl would be sent to a convent. Does anyone have any idea where she might have been sent? I can't find her after 1918 -  no death or marriage. I am wondering if she did get sent to a convent, did she end up overseas?

I have just found a possible death in 1952 in Cork - age is shown as 51 a spinster and a priests housekeeper, which may connect to being sent to a convent. Name at death is Ellen Dooling. Can't 100% confirm though as she died at a hospital and no family mentioned on death cert.

Hi,
Ok I think it's this.....it's the one that CelticMom first mentioned. The Thomas is from the hospital.

The place name is Carrigeen, which is a townland near Buttevant.

That's the death cert, I was looking at her death notice in a newspaper. Which gives her father as the late Thomas Dooling from Ducarrig and mentions brothers and sisters but not by name. Oddly no mother mentioned.
Which would be this man died 1945

It's clearly not Ellen Dowling daughter of Daniel.

Thanks that rules that death out then, which means back to trying to find what happened to her. I can’t find any marriage, but I suppose she could of died past registrations which are online which I think is 1960 odd?
