Free Masons Help
« on: Monday 27 July 20 13:05 BST (UK) »
I've recently come into a possession of a possible photo of an ancestor. He was in the Freemasons of Ireland, I am just wondering if anyone can confirm that what he is wearing in this photograph is related to the masons.

He was also a registered pharmacist, not sure if this relates to the picture.

Thank You

Not easy to say as the details are unclear, but there is script ... 'George ... 1903'
He is in a Lodge, but maybe Orange, Freemason or Ancient Order of ??? Alchemists ? Pharmacists ?
The round badge on the Apron would tell more but I can't enhance it enough to discern details.

Just checked online, 1903 it might refer to Prince George, later King George (1910)
Norfolk, Nelsons of Gt Ryburgh, Gooch, Howman, COLLISONS,  Ainger, Couzens, Batrick (Norfolk & Dorset), Tubby ( also of Yorkshire) Cathcarts of Ireland, Lancashire & Isle of Wight) Dickinsons of Morecambe and Lancaster, Wilson of Poulton-le-Sands and Broughton.  Wilson - Ffrance of Rawcliffe,  Mitchells of Isle of Wight. Hair of Ayrshire, Williamson of Tradeston, Glasgow. Nelsons in Australia with Haywards Heath connections.

That's a common style of Apron but doesn't identify a particular Lodge. Often the Lodge Number is on the Apron & the Sash.  What town did he reside ??? If you can find that you can locate the Lodges in his area.
Its decoration can change according to your status in the lodge. For instance, the Entered Apprentice uses a plain white lambskin without any ornament. The Fellowcraft also uses the plain white lambskin but they have two sky-blue rosettes at the bottom. Master Masons also use the same colour apron however they also have sky blue lining and edging with an additional rosette.

Looks like a Master Mason regalia he is wearing, with the Square on his Regalia. The Irish Freemasons always wear their aprons under their jackets. A Master Mason would have three rosettes on his apron.
