Thanks everyone.
I hadn't picked up on the entry on the 1851 census as Maria Seddon being an annuitant. I thought it was " assistant" and still didn't know what that meant.
Do you think he was dead by then even though she is listed as being married?
He was still alive in 1841 as he's on that census but must die between then and either 1851 or 1852 I believe.

You might want to consider that he wasn't dead but his wife had him legally declared dead
as he'd abandoned the family 1844/5.
She could have done this after 7 years, hence her appearance in 1851 as a wife but no husband.
Whether or not in 1851 a death certificate was then issued I'm not sure.
