Census transcriptions

   I have just been checking some of the errors which I have reported to FindMyPast. 2 of them, which have not been corrected, have one family member correct (possibly as a result of my earlier message) but the rest unchanged. This is one example, and it is quite clear that the names are the same, so how does this happen? I have no idea what the transcription process is.

The theory is that the transcriber has to write what they see.  So for some reason this one has read George senior correctly but decided all the rest were Coultham.  How they managed that is anyone's guess 

I've reported census errors but they never seem to get corrected.  I reported the same one about two or three times but it never got changed.  I've given up on that.

If you click on report an error for George senior, as you did before, at the bottom of the page you can amend the other household last name. Hopefully that should fix it.

  I have done it as Comberton suggests and also added a message, but I am not convinced that they are read!
   The reason I was checking this one was because of the Coultham name, which is one of mine, and does not tend to occur in Northumberland!

They went away and had a cup of tea in between George Senior and the rest of the family, and 'saw' it differently on their return.

Or perhaps it wasn't a cup of tea?

I normally post each person separately when reporting errors, probably not necessary.  Looking at that entry Lizzies surname does not have the t crossed so they could read it as an l  .
