Hello Natalie89,

You maybe having problems due to either the size of the image or the filename of the image. First check that your image is no larger than 900kb and if ok try to rename the file to something more unique.

Regards

Sarah

William Buckley born 1919 it was his mother who was hanorah shanahan born 1888
The father is not on the birth certificate. Thank you everyone for your replies it’s all helping. I am trying to upload the certificates I have but for some reason it won’t let me.

Why do you think this woman is Hanorah Shanahan.
As I pointed out before there is no maiden name for the mother on the birth cert of William Buckley.
What reason would Hanorah have for not giving her husband's name or her own maiden name on her son's birth cert?

That still doesn't explain why you think that William Buckley's mother is Nora Shanahan, or why if she is she didn't put her husband's name on the birth cert or her maiden name.

This is what I don’t understand why the fathers name isn’t on there. I know william Buckley was is the union workhouse Kilmallock. I’m trying to find out why he was in there and if his mother would of been with him.
Thanks

I'm not saying it isn't Nora Shanahan, but legally a married woman's children are her husbands even if he's not the father.
Even today a husband has to swear in court that he is not the father of his wife's child in order for another man's name to appear on the birth cert.

For this to be your Nora Shanahan she would have to be passing herself off or believed to be a single woman named Nora Buckley.

Being born in a workhouse is not unusual, the workhouse had a hospital which was usually the only means of getting medical attention by the vast majority of people, it doesn't necessary mean you were admitted to the workhouse on poverty grounds.

I thought they may have been in the work house because she was a single parent maybe. I’m guessing there is no way of finding out who his father was. Or even if Nora got married later on. As I thought she must have got married for her name to have changed to Buckley.
I really appreciate all your help thank you
