Have you seen the will of John Holmes of Brimington, 1810? It is a great help.

He mentions his parents Bartholomew and Ann, brother William and sisters Elizabeth Johnson, Mary Berrisford, Hannah Higginbotham, **Martha Grey**, Frances Holmes, Amelia Holmes and Sarah Bamford.

He was 27 when he died 18 Jun 1810 so his mother was still having children over 20 years after her wedding, not just 16!

In case you hadn't realised, the Brimington registers from before 1812 are lost. Brimington was a chapelry of Chesterfield and parishoners had to marry there, but baptisms and burials would have been recorded at Brimington, which is why you won't have found baptisms for all those children of Bartholomew and Ann but could find their wedding.

David

PS. The will is available on FindMyPast. You can get the Death Duty summary from the National Archives (currently free download) at https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D7184972

Fantastic........just what I needed, all the names mentioned as well...... now I know for sure and that the name Frances came from the Holmes family.

Just hope I am clever enough to obtain this will.. ;D
