More latin!baptism record for Bernard McNamara
« on: Wednesday 29 July 20 18:11 BST (UK) »
Hi

can anyone help with this? It's the baptism record for Bernard McNamara, 1886 England Roman Catholic Parish Baptisms Liverpool, All Souls, Lancashire, England.

It's the notes I can't read other than Quebec, Canada.

It says that someone* entered into matrimony with [name - see below] on the 14th day of October 1912 in the Church of Notre Dame of Portneuf in the diocese of Quebec - Canada.

*  I'm not familiar with the format of these records so I can't say who the subject is or how he relates to the apparent baptism.

The spouse's surname looks to end with:  _umelin or _amelin

The forename ends:  _ina

Bernard McNamara was the person who married 14th October 1912.
The 1907 encyclical on marriage "Ne temere" required priests to add information about marriage to baptism registers.

And amen to that!  I would not have found his first wife in Canada without that little note! :-)

It's worth looking for girls' Christian names which are not identical but similar.  I found an 1864 baptism of a Carolotta. It turned out she was registered as Charlotte. I should have guessed that one straight away, but didn't. Good luck.

Hi

I found Alexina Hamelin, who married Bernard on 14th October but unfortunately died of pneumonia two years later.

Well done ! Sometimes it just shows we never can tell. I've never come across the name Alexina before, which was why I suggested looking for variations.
