mary Gardiner nee smith

Am going back to an old post as still not resolved: William Humphries or Gardiner/Gardener. 2nd marriage to Mary SMITH 1887. He then marries 1906 Emma Harriett MANDER. on the marriage cert says supposed widower not seen wife for 14 years At the time of williams marriage to Mary He calls himself William Gardiner aged 42 Mary.SMITH was 29.( father) James Smith( farmer) mother Margaret RYAN. By 1896 william was living with Emma and no sign of Mary. All I want to know is what happened to MARY. I have all other info on this family so this is the brick wall part Thanks lnr

Firstly info from your previous thread ... re: 1887 marriage >

NZBDM  has his surname as  GARDINER  ... the NZSG Marriages index has  GARDENER ?

As you have this 1887 marriage record (cert. or printout), can you please transcribe all the information from it ?

Especially need >

*   Surname of groom  - as it is spelled on that document :   

*   His occupation

*   Date of widowhood  (1st wife - Eliza  HUMPHRIES  ?)

*   Mary SMITH's  birthplace

*   places of residence of bride and groom  - present and usual addresses

*   names of witnesses to the marriage, their occupations & addresses.

I asked for date of his widowhood above ... I see now that his 1st wife died 1885 - buried as
"Elina Louisa Gardiner HUMPHRIES - aged 37 years.

Thanks, yes I realised that it was Eliza (but  it's spelled incorrectly on the NZ BDM online index).

I was involved with your earlier search for this family, hence why I'm here now and asking questions . 

If you still need help with this, (and I'm thinking it might be a tall order to find the missing wife Mary), then would you please respond to my earlier request at Reply # 2 here on this thread ?
I did go back and re-read the earlier thread (and Mary I now see, was born Liverpool) but we are going to also need all the information you have from the 1887 marriage printout please if progress is to be made.

[  First wife was named Eliza (nee FRIDAY).     Most NZ births to couple only have Eliza for mother's name - although on one record, mother is named "Elina Louisa" .    "Elina" seems to be a mis-transcription of the name "Eliza".    So, the "death  advice" (as you put it), is for the correct person. ]     

The search on this thread though concerns wife number 2  -- Mary (nee SMITH).
