Front of Envelope Need Help in Translation
« on: Friday 31 July 20 01:03 BST (UK) »
I have the front of an envelope of a relative that was dated 1856.  I am a bit confused why he might have been in Constantinople though I realize one of his children was actually born there.  The family was from England.

I cannot make out all of the words.  Thanks for helping

Henry Ernest Wylde
____ Wright ____ ___
Galata of
Constantinople
Via French ____

I cannot decipher all of the stamps on the envelope though I can make out
FE-11 1856

Why might he be located in this area I wonder?

Thanks for any insight.

Could it be a company name in the address: Messrs Wright Physica & Co?

I agree,  and add that Henry has "Esq. "  - Esquire  after his surname and the envelope was despatched 'via French Packets '  ... So by the sea mail process available in that era.

ADD
Google 'Packet Trade'  :)

This rather large entry says he was a merchant so possibly travelled for trade reasons

That findagrave entry was placed by me.

And I have not figured out what he might be doing in that country quite yet.

I was wondering what French Packets meant.  Many many thanks!

Is that what it appears to you that this is a company name?
