John CANAVAN and Catherine MULVANEY
« on: Saturday 01 August 20 05:11 BST (UK) »
Dear People,
I am looking for any info regarding John CANAVAN and Catherine MULVANEY,  my G.G. grandparents.
Their son John, my G. grandfather left Ireland in 1867 under a cloud, reputedly having been involved in an uprising in Dublin that year.
Norman A. in OZ.

Welcome to Rootschat Norman

Can you tell us when son John was born and where please?

Do you know when and where his parents were married?

Were they residents of Dublin or did their son happen to get involved in the uprising in Dublin when visiting it?

Could this have been to do with the the Fenian Rebellion on March 5th 1867?

Did you wish to find information on John's parents John and Catherine?  If so any idea when and where they may have been born?

Thanks for responding, Girl Guide,
John CANAVAN was born in Dublin in 1843.
His father, Michael was born abt. 1806, where in Ireland, I don`t know.
I don`t know anything of John`s mother, Catherine MULVANEY.
And I have no idea where Michael and Catherine were married.
John had a sister Jane, born 1839, Dublin. Jane married a Cornelius PIETERS in Victoria in 1856.
Cornelius was one of the miners involved in the Eureka Stockade debacle.
It was a Fenian uprising in Dublin in 1867 that John may have been involved in,  fascinating.
I had a copy of a letter written by John`s father written to John in Victoria after he left Ireland, making comments like he was glad that John got away safely.
I would love to get a copy of that letter again, I lost my copy to the black Saturday bushfires in Victoria, I lost my home to the fire and everything in it, including 20 years of family history research.
There is a Jenni who posted to the forum who I believe has a copy of the letter.
Norm.
