Agreed. Also a town named Orange in New Jersey. Melrose was the only thing that made me think California, thanks to a history of watching Melrose Place.

Many thanks for all the information supplied. Very helpful. Looks like George McPherson was married twice because his Naturalisation application lists his wife as LIZZIE living in Scotland. Mae Elizabeth Deshaw was born in New York, so presumably a second marriage ?
