St Margaret's Heartfordshire England - BLAKE
« on: Monday 03 August 20 00:01 BST (UK) »
Hi - I'm wondering if it would be possible for someone to help identify the people in the attached photo?  The only information I have is the following that was written on the back of the photo >>

"We have all come to wish you a Merry Xmas and a Bright New Year"
"Your Grandfra Adopted Parents"
"St Margret Hertforshire England"
"Mother Blake"

I appreciate any help you can give me.
Thank you!

Welcome to Rootschat Wiley  :D

If someone is able to date the clothing it may give you a starting point.  St. Margaret's is in the Ware registration district.

I would be looking for the surname Blake as a married female in that registration district.

Welcome to RootsChat.

Looking at an enlargement of the writing I wonder if it actually says a 'Brighter' New Year which could indicate some family problems in the old year.

The ladies dress style looks Victorian to me so late 1800s but probably early 1900s.

I wish I knew more about the photo.  All I know is what's written on the back.  The photo was sent to me by my Uncle.  His father (my grandfather) came from Scotland but I believe they had family in England too.  Thank you for your help!

Not that it helps a lot, but I think it says Grandpa.

Welcome from me too,
Colin

That's a very interesting photo Ray.  It looks virtually identical apart from the fact that time has gone by so the background is different.
