Burial Look Up if possible please for 1969.
« on: Monday 03 August 20 23:50 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have access to records or information and could kindly carry out a burial Look Up for me please.

I dont have a lot of details and I do acknowledge that the Leicester district covers a large area, however there may be enough detail to help narrow the options.

I would like to find a burial for Ethel Eliza Thorpe who passed away in Leicester in the June quarter of 1969 (3a 1576). I believe her last known address to be Broadgate Street.

Mentioning Broadgate Street, does anyone know where Broadgate Street is or was?

Many thanks in advance for all offers of help and assistance.

Do you know for certain she was buried - not cremated?  Husband William died 1967 - was he buried?

Is the address quoted from the 1939 register?  If so - you have given incorrect info and need to check the 1939 image.  That address was 30yrs old at the time of her death so she may have moved

Ethel Eliza Thorpe died 21st June 1969 address 10 Brondhurst Street Leicester. ( I think that should be Broadhurst)   Postal code is LE4 6NF  and it is now a doctors' surgery.

From Find a Will GOV UK

https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/Calendar?surname=Thorpe&yearOfDeath=1969&page=2#calendar

You could send for the will (£1.50) as that might say where she wanted to be buried or cremated.

Thank you very much CaroleW for your reply and for the details you enclose.  :) The address was given to me recently by an elderly relative. They obviously got a little bit muddled up with Broadgate Street and Broadhurst Street. No wonder I couldnt find Broadgate Street on the map. ::)

Just been pondering this burial request.

Previously when I have posted similar requests I have been fortunate that some kind person has usually responded with burial information (possibly taken from Gilroes or Welford Road Cemetery records or perhaps even their own records  :-\).

I assumed that a burial Look Up would be straight forward until CaroleW mentioned was Ethel Eliza buried or cremated?  I dont know (although the Will I have just ordered may answer that)........so my question is for future reference......are their any Cremation records for Leicestershire.

Really curious now  :)

The best way is to contact the crematorium, especially as you now know the date of death and in 1969, cremation/burial was usually about a week to ten days later. I have done that with several and they have been very helpful and have even said where the ashes were scattered.

Hi Willsy,

Hope you are keeping well and great to hear from you again ;D thank you for "popping in" on this thread  ;)

That is absolutely brilliant information Willsy thank you so very much. I am hoping to make a trip to Leicester and Lutterworth later this year depending on Coronavirus. Hoping to call into St Marys Church at Lutterworth and now Belgrave Cemetery  :)

Sarah Elizabeth was Ethels mum. So I have her burial details as well.  :)

All the best, take care Steve
