Would someone with access to the parish records please be kind enough to look up the marriage of Edward William Rees to Anne Marsden on 25 September 1856 in Silian, near Lampeter.
I am curious to know whether he was a widower at that time. He would have been 32 at the time of this marriage - which - frankly - is a little old!!
My reason for this is because I cannot find him for sure in 1851 or 1841. I have lots of info about his later life and he always used his middle name.
He was born about 1824 in Llangurig, Montgomeryshire to Edward (school master and parish clerk) and Anne Rees.
After Anne Marsden's death he married again and ultimately after bankruptcy as landlord at the Gin Palace (Royal George) in Lampeter moved to the South Wales valleys where he died a collier aged 80 yrs.
I have wondered whether he didn't start using his middle name, William, until later in life, ie from 1861 onwards. His brother William died in 1856 so could that have caused him to include it then??
There are loads of Edward Rees in the Llangurig/Llanidloes area because the name goes back generations in the family.
I do have a possible sighting of "my" Edward William Rees - without the middle name - for 1841 in Llangurig. Also in 1851 in Llanidloes where he could be married to Jane. But not if he was a bachelor when I know for sure he married Anne Marsden.
Many thanks for reading this!
