Ada Smith
« on: Tuesday 04 August 20 22:43 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for information on my great-grandfather's (William Hugh Paterson) second wife Ada Smith.  I know that she was born in July 1891 and that they were married in 1935 and that they were living in Parthenon Drive in Liverpool in 1939 with my grandfather and his siblings. I'd like to know a little bit more about her as I can't find out if Smith is her maiden name or if she was married prior to the marriage in 1935. I'd also like to know when she died as after my great-grandfather died she became estranged from the family. Any help getting around this particular brick wall would be greatly appreciated.

Hiya Samantha and a warm welcome to Rootschat
Where did you get your info she was born in July - 1891 ???
there were 2 Ada Smith born in Liverpool - one mar qtr and one june qtr
https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

found the March  one - Ada Smith born in Liverpool 1891 - mar qtr - so she was born jan/feb/march
this is a record of her baptism in 1891 stating her father and mother
1891-6369   ST FRANCIS XAVIER   282-SFX-1-5 (518)   1891   1891   ADA   SMITH   EDWARD      LILY   FOX

so Ada Smith was baptised at St Francis Xavier church - looks like 1st May
father Edward Smith and mother Lily Fox

Welcome to RootsChat.

A copy of the marriage certificate would confirm whether Ada had been married previously.  You can order it on-line from GRO.  You will have to log in - no charge for that part.

garstonite - date of birth shown on 1939 register states 21 July 1891  :-\

I think that William's first wife was Alice Thomas, based on birth registrations for William Paterson in June quarter 1927 - mmn = Thomas, and Jessie in 1915.  I haven't checked any of the other children shown on 1939 register.

There is a marriage in Worcester RD in December quarter 1911 where Alice Thomas and William Paterson appear on the same page.

A death registration - March quarter 1933 - West Derby RD - Alice Paterson aged 47.
