J.V. Hewitt - 2nd Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment 1944
« on: Wednesday 05 August 20 10:16 BST (UK) »
Hi All

Looking to see if anybody has any info on a Private J.V. Hewitt 3561018 of the North Staffs

Was in Anzio area, and was reported missing with a Private George Martin on the 7th April 1944 following an attack on a German machine gun post.

G. Martin was presumed killed, and is remembered at the Cassino Memorial.  Hewitt was reported missing, does not appear on CWGC site, not on a POW list. Ma y have survived war!

May be a John Vincent Hewitt , born 1911, of Swinton, Worsley. Lancs. Son of John and Annie Hewitt, Birth registered at Barton upon Irwell

Thanks

There is a marriage in Barton, 1940 to a May Dunn which produced 2 children in 1942 & 1944 but nothing after that & cannot find a death record.
