Thank you for that!  I think that the man who posted the last information some time ago about James and John is the same source for the information I received about Paul Picken, which led to my post.  There seem to be many descendants of the Bailey family in Canada, America, Australia, New Zealand and a lot of their interest in Paul Picken is sparked by his connection to the Bailey family (his wife).  My interest in him is his relationship to Mary Picken.
The story of the Pickens has been fascinating.

Just presenting a jot more information  :D

It is interesting to read that the visitor during the 1911 census was a Picken born in Scotland.

The visitor (born in Scotland) was Mary Wilson's sister Margaret Jane, so at some point Paul and his first family lived in Ayrshire, Scotland.
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai001544279/

In the 1901 census, Margaret Jane is recorded as being born in Ayr. She was approximately two years older than her sister, who was born in Co Down.

Thank you for the further information!  The websites look really interesting and useful.
I find that my female ancestors tend to be disregarded in family trees and, in some cases, nobody seems to know their names, so all the information about one great grandmother is good to know.

A second cousin sent me a photograph of Mary Picken, captioned "of sugar bowl fame".  I am intrigued about this, but nobody seems to know what it refers to.

Thank you for all your help.

His daughter Mary married Joseph Graham Wilson (of Ballylaggin (sic)) in 1902 in Gardenmore Presbyterian church, Larne.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1902/10267/5736617.pdf

Just to pick up on this, Joseph Graham WILSON's sister Harriett WILSON was married to James PICKEN, the one who went to Canada (though I didn't know that till I read this thread).

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1884/10908/5984432.pdf

Joseph and Harriett's parents were John WILSON (c1814-1896) and Janet GRAHAM (c1820-1898).  They are buried in Ballynure.  Janet came from a line of Grahams going back to David GRAHAM of Raloo (c1660-c1739).  He was somehow connected to the Rev. Edward BRICE of Ballycarry (c1569-1636), first Presbyterian minister in Ireland.

Thank you for this further information about the Pickens.  So Picken sister and brother married Wilson brother and sister.
This intermarrying, presumably because people did not travel much, is also apparent in my Johnstone ancestors, some of whom seemed to marry Baileys, all from Carrickfergus/Greenisland.
I am very grateful for all the information I have acquired about the Pickens.
