GRO Ireland Research Room
« on: Thursday 06 August 20 11:37 BST (UK) »
Just a heads up on something I read in an Irish genealogy forum - a procedure for purchasing the photocopy records of births/deaths/marriages via the research room. Excellent service from the staff in the research room. From start to finish yesterday - less than 2 hours.

Timeline
12.29pm - Sent e-mail for one marriage record (1953) and two death records (1876) and (1865).

12.32pm - Automated e-mail reply acknowledging.

1.59pm - GRO RR processed request and sent e-mail asking me to ring them for payment.

2.17pm - Rang them and paid by card.

2.21pm - Copies arrived by e-mail.

So, why don't you try it!

KG

Edited to add:
The 1953 marriage was confirmed as a second cousin who, until two weeks ago, I never even knew existed!

Thanks for that advice, Kiltaglassan.

I would often visit the Registrations Office in Dublin to do some research. I ordered some copies last night after reading your post and had them in my Inbox this morning at 11.25. A great service!

Indeed it is, Marcello and much faster than applying to Roscommon.

Enjoy your ancestor hunting!  ;D ;D

The research room will re-open and will operate a limited number of appointments from Monday 7th December.

After e-mailing for an appointment, a member of staff will allocate an available slot.

From Claire Santry-
https://www.irishgenealogynews.com/2020/12/general-register-office-of-ireland.html

The General Register Office of Ireland has increased the cost of 'research' copies of entries in the birth, marriage and death civil registers. Each research copy is now €5, up from €4. This new price will be charged for research copies whether supplied from the GRO at Roscommon HQ, local authority registration offices, or the GRO Search Room in Dublin.
