Hockley, Essex
« on: Thursday 06 August 20 13:11 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find more information on

Miss Hawkleys Home, Hockley, Essex

In 1913 & 1914 a number of people went there from the Shoreditch workhouse maybe other workhouses as well I don't know.

Does anyone know what this place was as I can't find any information on it.

Thanks

I think you may be referring to the Tawke family - Mrs and Miss Tawke who were Hockley residents and in short did a lot of good deeds including setting up a laundry for less fortunate women locally that later took women from further afield.  Mrs Tawke from Hockley rather than Mrs Hawkley?

I am not completely familiar but there is a wealth of information if you google and a facebook group called 'Hockley as it was' where some people with lots of details have posted information - you would need to join I think.
