Mclean/ McLeod
« on: Saturday 08 August 20 14:51 BST (UK) »
Catherine Mclean born 1833 Achiltibuie married Angus McLeod in 1855. It has been said they went to NZ with HER brother and wife, re Donald, Isabella Souter in 1859 from London.
In research, I have found out this is not true. Any ideal where the McLeods went then please. Thank you

Pretty thin on the on information.

Care to share their parents names and children names with their births?

Thanks Don

There might be something on this website:

http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~coigach/genealogy/achil.htm

Note that the  parish records  begin in the 1790s.

I did a study of the area about 15-20 years ago but my records are not easily available.  Don's  webpages are very helpful.

They seem to have had a daughter Isabella, born 9 October 1856, and a son Kenneth, born 26 December 1858, both in Lochbroom.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

If you are looking for help, it's a good idea to tell us as much as possible of what you already know.

Angus McLeod and Catherine McLean were married in Lochbroom in 1855.

Donald Mclean and Isabella Souter/Sutor were married in 1859. For reasons I don't quite understand, the marriage was apparently registered twice, in Logie Easter and in Kilmuir Easter.

Have you seen both/all of these marriage certificates?

What additional information do you have that leads you to believe that Donald and Catherine McLean were from Achiltibuie?

If I understand you right, Donald and Isabella emigrated to New Zealand aboard the 'Mary-Anne' from London. When was that?

The minister made a mistake. So my wife tells me. Forgot that.
   1859 they left for NZ.
Three weeks after getting married actually.
   Planned or not eh?

That still doesn't account for two statutory civil records.

Missus says one is crossed out.
Once the places are opened up again, and now that  I’m retired, it’s my intention to go up to Inverness to Bugh park to have a deeper look at the ‘ins and outs’ of the; Where’s, and WHYs of what happen.
I hope to look, more so’ at Isabella Souter’s family as well.
Isabella was a so-called housekeeper to her brother at Scotsburn. Him the Grieve.
Donald was a shepherd at Torran. The wooden church at Alness burnt down. Seen photos of it via highland council. The new church has some bits of it.
