Records Wandsworth Prison

Hi there, my name is Joan Douglas and I live in Australia. I recently found a record in 1911 census for John Duprey who could belong to my family. He was born 1866 in France, previously a porter and was resident in Wandsworth Prison at the time of the census. Unfortunately I have not been able to find further records. As the records are not on line and it is impossible for me to obtain them at the moment could anyone recommend a reliable researcher I could hire just to check the dates of the record please?
Thanks.

Thank you for your reply. This is a rather complicated situation. My father was born to Annette Mason in London in 1909 but the father listed on the birth certificate was definitely not correct as shown by DNA results. My 2 sons and I have numerous matches with Dupre family and a percentage of European DNA which must come from our paternal side as most other family we have researched thoroughly. Annette at the time of the birth was working in a hotel which could be where she met with John. We would love to have a grandfather. Here is the link to the record.

Record on FS

Ancestry have the surname transcribed as Duprey, FindMyPast have it as Dupony
Looking at the image I don't think its Duprey and could well be Dupony.
These prison registers are held at London Metropolitan Archives.

currently still closed but hoping to re-open next month. An email enquiry then would result in a quote to look at the records for you.

Looking for John DUPONY on the major sites indicates that this man in Wandsworth was Dupony and not Duprey.
Ancestry have him in and out of the workhouse, FindMyPast have court records showing he was in and out of court and prison.

There was a John Dupony who in 1902 was charged at Westminster for giving a false name when applying for poor relief. I am assuming from the newspaper article that he would have liked to be imprisoned maybe so he got a roof over his head.
In 1891 he is possibly in St Martin in the Fields

The newspaper report is quite amusing.
FindMyPast has details of his being admitted to prison 1902, 1903, 1904 x 2, 1906, 1907 and 1910. Described variously as "incorrigible rogue", "idle pauper".

Thank you so much for all the help. Yes, it does look like Dupony, sometimes Duprey/Dupony are interchangeable. Much to research. Thanks again.
